Glossary > Hosted Application
Hosted Application
A hosted application is a software program that is run on a remote server and accessed over a network via a web browser or a mobile app. This is in contrast to a locally installed application, which is installed and run on the user’s own computer or device.
Hosted applications are often referred to as “software as a service” (SaaS) because they are provided as a service to users over the internet. Examples of hosted applications include email services, customer relationship management software, and online project management tools.
