Glossary > Cloud Marketplace
A cloud marketplace is a type of online, cloud-based platform where buyers and sellers can meet, exchange information, procure software, and conduct transactions.
Cloud marketplaces can be full e-commerce style websites where the customer can search for, learn about, and the provision the software all in one enviornment, or the marketplace could be a simple list or collection of vendors with links to their sites.
Customers can use a cloud marketplace to search for SaaS products or IT services based on needs such as the service offered, the hosting environment, cost, performance, or technology integration requirements.
When customers have found what they’re looking for, they can place an order directly with the vendor or partner who owns the product or service, depending on the type of cloud marketplace. The vendor will then offer them a range of payment options including subscription pricing models or pay as you go options.
